Mr. Beischer, 66, has
owned and operated Garden View Realty, Inc., a real
estate development and management firm, located in
Durham, North Carolina, since 1976. Among other
projects, Garden View developed Croasdaile Farms. Mr.
Beischer received his BA from Duke University, Durham,
North Carolina in 1963 and his LLB from the University
of North Carolina School of Law, Chapel Hill, North
Carolina in 1966. Mr. Beischer serves on the Advisory
Board of the Center for Banking and Finance at the
School of Law of the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill and is the former chairman of the Board of
Directors of a former de novo commercial bank organized in the
City of Durham.
Mr. Bick, 52, is a
principal in Bick Capital Advisors, Inc., which he
founded in 1996. Since 2002, he has been principally
engaged as a private investor in venture capital and
real estate. Prior to 2002, he arranged private debt
financings for emerging companies, principally in the
telecommunications industry, Mr. Bick also serves as an
adjunct professor of the Kenan-Flagler Business School
at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where
he teaches courses in entrepreneurial finance and
business plan analysis. From 1992 to 1996, Mr. Bick was
a Vice President in the Capital Markets Division of AT&T
Capital Corp. Mr. Bick started his career in banking
with Bankers Trust Company in New York, where he
completed the commercial bank training program and
worked in the corporate credit department. Mr. Bick is a
member of the Advisory Board of the Durham Salvation
Army and recently completed six years as a member of the
Board of Trustees of Durham Academy, Durham, North
Carolina. Mr. Bick received an MBA in Finance from New
York University and a BA in Economics (cum laude) from
Yale University.
Mr. Conway, 57, is Chairman and CEO of Raleigh-based Lucor Inc., which operates 181 quick lube centers in seven states employing 1,800 people and generating $100 million in revenue annually. Mr. Conway along with his brother founded Lucor Inc. in 1986. Mr. Conway is also Vice President and partners with his brother in Auto Parts Unlimited, an auto parts import and distribution and logistics company, Navigator Management, Inc and Navigator Real Estate Holdings, LLC. Mr. Conway has extensive experience in corporate finance, business development, real estate, and in personal and business financial advisory services. Mr. Conway attended college at Indiana University. He completed his BS degree in 1978 after attending MER University in Seelisburg, Switzerland for three years. Mr. Conway obtained his Certification as a Certified Financial Planner in 1982 and served on the Board of Directors of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners during its most formative years. Mr. Conway obtained his principal and financial operations licenses from the National Association of Securities Dealers in the 1980s.
Mr. Draughon, 50,
President and CEO of KeySource Commercial Bank has
been in investment banking for approximately 20 years
and was previously a Managing Director/Senior Vice
President for Anderson & Strudwick, Inc., a full service
brokerage firm headquartered in Richmond, Virginia. Mr.
Draughon also previously served on the Board of Directors for Smith
River Community Bank of Martinsville, Virginia and
Millennia Community Bank of Greenville, North Carolina.
Prior to Anderson & Strudwick, Mr. Draughon was the
Chairman and CEO of Convenience USA, Inc., an operator
of over 250 convenience stores, from 1998 to 2002.
During the mid-1990s, Mr. Draughon was a Managing
Director with the investment banking firm of Baxter
Fentriss. From 1989 to 1993, Mr. Draughon was Senior
Financial Analyst for Montrose Capital, a merchant
banking group. Mr. Draughon began his career in banking
with Wachovia Bank from 1984 to 1989 as an Assistant
Vice President. Mr. Draughon received an MBA from Wake
Forest University's Babcock School of Management in 1984
and a BA from Brigham Young University in 1982.
Mr. Horton, 62, has
been a Manager of Telesis Construction Management, LLC,
Hillsborough, North Carolina, a residential, commercial
and land development company, since 1994. From 1984
until 2003, Mr. Horton was the owner and operator of
Paramount Builders in Hillsborough, North Carolina.
Prior to entering the real estate industry, Mr. Horton
was President of J.G. Tilip, Inc., a manufacturer of
injection molds for the plastics industry. Mr. Horton
attended San Mateo Junior College in San Mateo,
California from 1964 to 1966. Until joining the
organizing efforts of the Bank, Mr. Horton was an
advisory board member for BB&T in Hillsborough, North
Carolina.
Mr. Kohl, 54, is
President of Spring Lake Properties, Co. Inc., a real
estate development company specializing in multi-family
units. He also serves as a managing member of Clean Burn
Fuels, LLC, a startup company intending to build one or
more ethanol refineries in North Carolina. Mr. Kohl also
is an active private investor in both real estate and
securities. From 1983 to 1991, he served as president of
Refco Securities, Inc., a New York Stock Exchange member
firm. Mr. Kohl received his BA from Brandeis University
in Waltham, Massachusetts and his MBA from Stanford
University.
Ms. Martindale, 54,
joined LipoScience, Inc., a medical technology company
based in Raleigh, North Carolina, in March 2001 as
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
Prior to joining LipoScience, Ms. Martindale served from
April 1996 to February 2001 as Vice President and
Finance Director of GlaxoWellcome Research &
Development, a pharmaceutical research and development
company. Ms. Martindale held various positions with
GlaxoWellcome Inc., a pharmaceutical company, from 1984
to February 2001, including Vice President, Corporate
Planning and Analysis for GlaxoWellcome Inc. and Vice
President, Financial Planning and Analysis for Glaxo
Inc. Ms. Martindale received a BS in Business from
Indiana University and a MBA from Campbell University.
Mr. Monsein, 50, owns
and operates The Aluminum Company of North Carolina. Mr.
Monsein has been a Durham resident since 1961 when his
father moved to Durham from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to
found The Aluminum Company of North Carolina. Mr.
Monsein attended East Carolina University and took over
the family business in 1984. Mr. Monsein is a licensed
general contractor in North Carolina and is active in
community and civic affairs.
Mr. Murphy, 63, has
extensive experience in the health care and employee
benefits field. From 1996 to 1998, Mr. Murphy served as
the President and CEO of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield,
Cincinnati, Ohio, a $4 billion health care employee
benefits business. Since 1998, Mr. Murphy has served as
President of J.P. Murphy, Inc., Durham, North Carolina,
a consulting company focused on improving the quality of
health care and employee benefits services provided in
the United States and internationally. Mr. Murphy
is past President of the Board of
Governors of Treyburn Country Club, Durham North
Carolina. Mr. Murphy received his BA from Loras College,
Dubuque, Iowa and completed graduate studies at DePaul
University, Chicago, Illinois.
Mr. Parker, 64, is a
retired Senior Vice-President of Wachovia Bank (31
years), who was responsible for Residential Mortgage
Lending for North Carolina and Virginia. Most recently, he
retired from working part-time as a Mortgage Loan Consultant for
Corporate Investors Mortgage Group. Mr. Parker is a 1967
graduate of North Carolina A&T State University with a
BS degree in Health and Physical Education. He also
completed Wachovia's Senior Management Development
Program at The Fuqua School of Business, Duke
University. Mr. Parker serves on the Board of Directors
of the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, is a
member of the Durham Planning & Zoning Commission, the
Durham City Small Business Loan Credit Committee and the
Generations Credit Union Credit Committee. He has
previously served as President of the Mortgage Bankers
Association of North and South Carolina.
Mr. Ramsey, 59, is
the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bank. Mr.
Ramsey has over 30 years of financial services
experience across several disciplines-marketing
research, strategic planning, product development,
advertising, public relations, sales management, bank
operations, training and employee communications. Mr.
Ramsey retired in June 2004 as the executive vice
president of CCB/National Commerce for Strategic
Initiatives at the time of the merger with SunTrust. Mr. Ramsey began his banking career with South
Carolina National Bank in Columbia, South Carolina (now
Wachovia) from 1971-1973, followed by four years at
First Virginia Bankshares (now BB&T) in Falls Church,
Virginia, one-year at American Security Bank (now Bank
of America) in Washington, DC, and fourteen years with
Wachovia Bank in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Mr.
Ramsey left Wachovia in 1992 to start Ramsey &
Associates, a retail banking consulting firm. He then
joined Security Capital Bancorp (now SunTrust) in 1994
as marketing director in Salisbury, North Carolina and
moved to Durham, North Carolina in 1995 following
Security Capital’s merger with Central Carolina Bank
(later National Commerce Financial) where he was
responsible for marketing, product planning, branch
operations, corporate training, internet banking, call
center, philanthropic giving, political action committee
and privacy compliance. In recent years,
Mr. Ramsey has served on the volunteer boards of The
Carolina Theatre, the Durham Arts Council, and the N.C.
Science, Mathematics and Technology Education Center.
Currently, Mr. Ramsey serves as a commissioner for the
Durham Housing Authority. Mr. Ramsey received his BA
from the University of South Carolina in 1971.
Mr. Sample, 65, owner
of GM&M Real Estate Services, a real estate developer of
commercial and office space; and manager of shopping
center, retail, office and industrial properties. Mr.
Sample also managers an investment company specializing
in financial stocks. Mr. Sample was the former owner of
Garner News and Cary News. From 1991 to 1999 Mr. Sample
was a Board of Alderman for the Town of Garner in North
Carolina. From 1974 to 1999 Mr. Sample was the founder
and first Chairman of the St. Mary’s Health Authority,
Inc. in Garner, NC. Mr. Sample received a Bachelor of
Science from Purdue University in 1964 and post graduate
work in communications and sociology from University of
Wyoming and Colorado State University
Mr. Waters, 49, is
the President of The Benefit Planning Group, Inc., an
insurance and employee benefits firm located in Durham,
North Carolina that he has owned for 19 years. He is
also a Principal in Reliance Financial Group, LLC a
Registered Investment Advisor and financial planning
company also located in Durham, which he started ten
years ago. After high school, he spent four years in the
United States Marine Corps from which he was honorably
discharged. After his tour in the military, Mr. Waters
received his undergraduate degree with honors from
Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. In 1995, Mr.
Waters graduated from the Certified Employee Benefits
Specialist program at the Wharton School of Business at
the University of Pennsylvania.
